Add Warm To A Modern Home At Jadescape
This design story takes us through the transformation of a brand-new four-bedroom condominium at Jadescape, examining the approach to enhancing its interior spaces. The unit comes fully fitted with floor tiles, a kitchen, and completed bathrooms, which might initially seem restrictive for customization. However, by thoughtfully working with the existing colour scheme, we can achieve our design goals seamlessly and cost-effectively, elevating the space without unnecessary expenses.
Creating A Warm Home For A Professional Who Enjoys Pop-Culture
The client is a single professional who works from home and enjoys collecting pop-culture memorabilia, watching movies, and playing computer games. With these interests in mind, we need to ensure that the spaces where the client spends most of her time are functional and conducive to her hobbies.
Adding Warmth to the Living Room:
The developer’s primary colour scheme in the living area comprises cool-coloured marble flooring with taupe kitchen carpentry. With a reddish undertone, Taupe gives a sense of warmth that directly contrasts the floor. To extend the cosy feeling throughout the living space, the TV console, coffee table, and display shelving furniture are selected to follow the same warm feel.
While the owner’s memorabilia may draw your attention, the centrepiece is the custom dining table. This one-of-a-kind dining table, made of a solid stone slab with reddish veins, is a fully functional dining table and a transitioning element between the living and kitchen spaces.
Making Sure Lights And Fans Do Not Conflict
Ceiling fans are essential for good ventilation, but their placement may cause light flickering if not installed correctly. To solve this problem, a continuous false ceiling strip spanning the living, dining, and dry kitchen areas was installed with one single warm-coloured directional cove lighting with cool-coloured downlights.
The downlights below the false ceiling focus on two areas – the area above the sofa and the kitchen doorway. They provide a highly functional use by allowing reading on the sofa and working on the dining table. On the other hand, the single-directional cove lighting floods the entire room and creates an intimate feel. Switching downlights or cove lighting will allow alternation between the two moods. A pendant light above the dining creates zoning and adds more focus to the area.
Study, Work, Play and Display In The Study Room:
Aside from work and play, the study room is also a venue to house her precious collectables. We used a neutral dark grey external laminate for the cabinet to blend with the background of the wooden floor. The internal lighter colour tone with LED lighting highlights the pop-culture collectables, making them stand out as visual artwork. The ceiling light can also alternate between cool and warm lighting, depending on whether you are at work or play.
Mixing Colours In The Master Bedroom:
For the master bedroom, the bedhead is the focal point of the entire room and the spotlight of our work. Since the client prefers ready-made bedside tables for flexibility, the design began by first understanding what is available. Next, a similar-coloured laminate on both sides of the bedhead was selected to make the integration seamless.
Typically, we follow the 80-20 rule when combining cool and warm colours. Otherwise, there will be an uncomfortable colour tension. At first glance, the centrepiece of the bedhead, with its grey and bluish undertone, directly conflicts with the warm laminates at the side. However, combining the cool-coloured bedsheet and curtains takes up 80% of the room. Making this cool-warm combination work exceptionally well.
To keep the master bedroom pristine, a reeded ghost sliding glass door divides the resting area from the wardrobe. Not only does it hide away the mess, but it also allows light from the bathroom to enter the master bedroom.
Creating A Home That Is Functional And Aesthetically Pleasing.Â
Creating a well-designed home goes beyond selecting ideas from magazines or social media. Every project involves a thoughtful process, focusing on lifestyle needs, functionality, and a personalized approach to bring the space to life. We’re delighted that this unit at Jadescape has become the ideal sanctuary for this single professional. We’re confident she’ll enjoy making beautiful memories while balancing work and hobbies in her new home.
