A Brief History of Sengkang.
The Sengkang area can trace its history back more than 200 years. Originally it was a simple Malay fishing kampung, where sailing and fishing were a way of life.

Sengkang, meaning “prosperous harbour” in Chinese, draws upon a historical aspect of a thriving fishing port that used to be located along Sungei Serangoon. Sengkang was then known as “Kang Kar (which means the foot of the ports in Teochew), where fishermen would sell their catch and trade with farmers.

At that time, fishing villages and rubber and pepper plantations flourished In the area.
