Interior Design Stories: Conceiving Luxury With The Use Of White, Black And Grey At Cityscape

Cityscape Interior Design: Conceiving Luxury With The Use Of White, Black And Grey

In this episode, we delve into the creative journey of transforming a resale three-bedroom unit at Cityscape into a luxurious haven that embraces both luxury and comfort. Almost everything in the house was redone except for the original marble flooring in the living and dining areas and parquet flooring in the bedrooms.

Blending Luxury, Comfort And Functionality

The client is a couple residing in Singapore for many years before deciding to make this 3-bedroom at Cityscape their first home. As successful professionals with a taste for the finer things, they cherish moments of relaxation, often unwinding with alcoholic beverages and engaging in immersive video game sessions. To cater to their refined lifestyle and pastimes, it’s paramount to create dedicated spaces that are both functional and exquisitely appointed, ensuring their home becomes an oasis of luxury and entertainment.

Appreciate The Things You Enjoy The Very Moment You Open The Door

Upon opening the main door, the interior immediately unfolds with a sense of functionality and style. The dining table takes centre stage, positioned strategically against the pantry and seamlessly integrated with the open-concept kitchen. To the right, a cleverly designed shoe cabinet offers dual functionality. This floating two-door cabinet houses a rotating shoe rack that stores 50 pairs of shoes. Adjacent, a curved open niche serves a dual purpose: displaying treasured small items and offering an unobstructed view from multiple angles. Fluted panels add a touch of visual intrigue, strategically placed on the pantry wall, niche, and kitchen countertop, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.

The background showcases a built-in dark wood shelving unit with warm accent lighting, displaying decorative pieces, books, and a stylish cap. The space exudes sophistication with its neutral color palette, reflective flooring, and a combination of textures that enhance the luxurious ambiance.

The open-concept kitchen is designed with a combination of light and dark cabinetry, a white backsplash, and a clean, minimalist island with marble and wood panel detailing. A sculptural pendant light with intertwined rings adds a contemporary artistic touch above the dining table. The dark cabinetry in the background provides ample storage and a sophisticated contrast, enhancing the luxurious and functional appeal of the space.

Use Of Ebony Inspired Laminates

Drawing inspiration from ebony, a rare and luxurious heartwood found in South India and West Africa, the carpentry throughout the house exudes elegance and grandeur. Traditionally reserved for royalty, this almost-black material imbues the space with a timeless sophistication. Gold trimmings are incorporated throughout the design to enhance the sense of refinement. Gleaming accents highlight the alcohol display in the pantry. They are also applied to define the niche beside the shoe cabinet, adding a touch of artistry and cohesion to the overall aesthetic.

Having A Highly Flexible Kitchen

Despite their busy professional schedules, the couple desires a kitchen that caters to both practicality and future possibilities. An open-concept layout seamlessly merges the kitchen and dining area, enhancing the perception of space and allowing natural light to flood both zones. This open design encourages interaction and connection while preparing meals, making it ideal for their current lifestyle.

However, the couple understands that their culinary needs may evolve. To accommodate potential changes, a foldable glass curtain on the kitchen countertop and a sliding glass door offer flexibility. These features create a semi-closed space when desired, providing adequate odour containment during heavier cooking sessions. This thoughtful design ensures the kitchen remains functional and adaptable to their changing needs.

In the background, the living room with a mounted TV and elegant wood paneling adds to the cohesive and modern ambiance.

A Small But Fully Equipped Kitchen

Despite its compact size and partially open-concept design, the remodelled kitchen is well equipped, boasting a full suite of appliances, including an induction stove, hood, refrigerator, water dispenser, and dishwasher. The subtle beige and cream laminate of the top cabinet choice ensures the small space feels expansive and visually integrates seamlessly with the dining area when the glass doors are fully opened.

Living Room And TV Console, A Place For Fun And Games

This house boasts two distinct focal points. The pantry caters to relaxing and winding down, while the living room is more of an activity zone for video games. Our initial design comprises a full-height marble slab going from top to bottom, but the owners sought an alternative way to expand the living space visually. A strategically placed tinted mirror near the ceiling reflects light, and this subtle element creates the illusion of a vast and open living area.

Floor-to-ceiling blinds provide privacy while allowing soft natural light to filter in, enhancing the tranquil ambiance of this contemporary outdoor retreat.

Maintaining a clean and clutter-free environment is also a key priority. The floating TV console cleverly conceals all gaming consoles and cables, leaving only a discreet soundbar visible. Gold trimmings hint at the hidden technology, adding a touch of elegance without compromising the sleek, minimalist aesthetic.

Lighting With Versatility And Flexibility

The living and dining rooms are illuminated by concealed track lighting, which prioritizes adaptability and allows for seamless transitions between various lighting types ranging from ambient, accent, or task lighting.

The decision to utilize track lighting stemmed from the owners’ uncertainty about their future wall art. This forward-thinking approach ensures they can adjust their lighting scheme once their artwork is chosen. They can highlight specific pieces and enhance their visual impact by switching to task lighting with a higher colour rendering index.

Extending Luxury To The Master Bedroom And Bathroom

The bedroom embraces the same luxurious ebony tone for the wardrobe, accented by sleek gold handles. The built-in storage solution beside the master bathroom features a clever niche in the centre, offering additional display space for treasured items. A concealed wardrobe lift provides effortless access to the highest shelves, ensuring every inch of storage is utilized. The niche is a personal haven, showcasing a watch winder, accessories, and other cherished belongings.

The rarely used bathtub was replaced in the bathroom with an expanded shower area, maximizing space and functionality. We navigated an odd piping configuration, creating a unique top vanity with three layers. The deepest layer houses the basin, a stylish round mirror, and a second mirror conceals the M&E pipes. Finally, a spacious storage cabinet completes the vanity, offering ample hidden storage.
