SINGAPORE – Construction at City Developments’ Whistler Grand project in West Coast Vale resumed on Wednesday (Feb 12) after its builder voluntarily stopped site work for two days when an employee was suspected of being infected with the coronavirus, The Straits Times has learned.
Construction and civil engineering firm Woh Hup, Whistler Grand’s builder, halted work on Feb 10 and 11 to clean and disinfect the site as a precaution.
“We were alerted by our builder that one of their employees was tested for Covid-19. After testing, we were informed that the results were negative,” a CDL spokesman told The Straits Times on Wednesday evening, referring to the coronavirus by its official name.
The suspected case was a male Indian national who had a fever, CDL said.
“Our builder voluntarily decided to stop site works for two days for deep cleansing and disinfecting works,” she said.
Work at the 716-unit project resumed on Feb 12, CDL said.
The firm said it is “too premature to determine the impact” the virus outbreak could have on construction timelines for its projects.
“Although our development sites remain operational with precautionary measures in place, more time is needed to ascertain the impact on our supply chain and construction productivity,” a spokesperson added.
“We are working closely with our builders to assess the impact on construction schedule.”
